Journal History

Sriwijaya Journal of International Relations (SJIR) was first published in June 2021 as a scholarly platform initiated by the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sriwijaya. The journal was founded with the vision of fostering critical, empirical, and theoretical discussions on international relations and Indonesia’s role in the global political landscape.

Since its inception, SJIR has aimed to provide an inclusive space for scholars, practitioners, and students to engage in academic dialogues covering key areas such as foreign policy, diplomacy, security studies, global political economy, regionalism, conflict resolution, and global governance.

In its early years, SJIR has:

  • Successfully published regular biannual issues (June and December),

  • Established a rigorous double-blind peer-review system,

  • Adopted an Open Access policy to ensure wide dissemination of research,

  • Been indexed in GARUDA, Google Scholar, and Dimensions,

  • Embarked on institutional partnership efforts with AIHII (Asosiasi Ilmu Hubungan Internasional Indonesia),

  • Actively prepared for national accreditation, with a SINTA application scheduled for August 2025.

In 2025, SJIR underwent a full platform revitalization following technical disruptions, including a migration to the latest OJS 3.3.0-21 system and a redesigned editorial structure—reaffirming its commitment to academic integrity, digital security, and user accessibility.

Looking forward, SJIR aspires to:

  • Enhance international visibility through broader indexation,

  • Attract cross-regional scholarly contributions,

  • Uphold ethical publishing standards under COPE guidelines,

  • And evolve as a credible voice in Southeast Asian international relations scholarship.

From a local initiative to a growing academic forum, SJIR continues to strive toward excellence, inclusivity, and scholarly impact.
