Abstract

The bilateral relationship between Indonesia and China during President Joko Widodo's leadership era has emerged significantly, especially in the economic sector. The cooperation between the two nations has additionally culminated in several critical initiatives in Indonesia. Because every leader has their own objectives and characteristics when designing foreign policy, the presidential transition will affect the continuity of the relationship. Therefore, this paper argues that President Prabowo Subianto, as the new President of Indonesia, desires to enhance the positive relations with China as President Joko Widodo has accomplished in previous years. President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to make his first diplomatic visit to China has strengthened this argument. During the meeting, President Prabowo Subianto succeeded in negotiating a significant investment commitment and, along with President Xi Jinping, observed the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements within several sectors. Indeed, the future implementation of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and China might encounter a few challenges, including environmental, economic, and geopolitical issues. Nevertheless, the bilateral relations between the two countries tend to be pleasant and favourable.
